Heidi and Phil One hot day but a really cool couple! They have quite an extended family with lots of siblings. I had the opportunity to work with Lisa Mares, my favorite videographer and of course the Magnolia Hotel did a fantastic job with Jane and Taylor leading the charge. Heidi and Phil are also going to Italy on their honeymoon. One day I'm going to stow away in the luggage and get that trip to the Mediterranean and get some magnificent portfolio images. See their highlights slide show by clicking here. Times Square
Kelly, my December bride, sent me an email this evening with an image attached taken of Times Square. She had submitted a photo I had taken of their Scottish Terrier, Katie, to Ralston Purina as part of a tribute to dogs. Well. it appeared on the big billboard today along with about 9,000 other photos of man's (and woman's) best friends. I can now say that my images have made it to the "BIG SCREEN". Sara and Scott I had a rare opportunity to work with one of the greatest wedding photographers in the world, David Beckstead. David has been a friend of mine for years and this week he's in Denver conducting a 3 day intensive workshop and he decided to fly in a day early and come hang out and help with my wedding. All I can say is WOW! Just from what I saw on the back of his camera last night I know the imagery from this one is going to be off the charts! Sara and Scott have been dating since she was only 16 years old and has probably been looking forward to this day since she was only 6. They allowed us to cart them all over downtown Denver for some pretty cool fashion style photographs. I put the top down on the car and had them in the back, on the rear deck and they played like they were on a roller coaster.
After the ceremony they rode in a horse and carriage back to the Westin while David drove and I shot out from the back seat like a paparazzi. See the highlights by clicking here. Posted June 30th, 2008 Grant, Posted Monday, June 23rd, 2008 Grant Oakes. WOW!! Most beautiful wedding pictures I have ever seen, except my
own. Mort Sprentall Posted Thursday, June 19th, 2008 Grant, Posted Tuesday, June 17th, 2008 Grant, The pictures are absolutely AWESOME!!! We cannot thank David and you enough for the wonderful memories. Can't wait to see the rest of the photos. Carol Parkin, mother of the bride Michelle and Chad Michelle and Chad had their ceremony at St John's Cathedral and their reception at the Brown Palace. We made a brief stop at the Court of Appeals in between. They are going to the Amalfi coast in Italy for their honeymoon. I wish I was going too! The toasts were quite interesting to say the least. I heard some really good stories about this couple that are going to be pretty hard for them to live down. Click here to see their highlights. Art Book
Last night at the Ritz-Carlton in Downtown Denver during the Wedding Showcase event I introduced a new custom product that I will be offering my wedding clients that are looking for something that no one else can get, a designer Art Book, custom made with a very unique vellum overlay with a faint image printed on it. It's something you just have to see since words can't adequately describe it. Jessica and Steve Hard to imagine but hockey brought this couple together. They met when they both played on a hockey league and of course they're both huge Colorado Avalanche fans. Their wedding took place at the Pines at Genesse, my old friend, Marc McDonald with Complete Music provided the necessary groovin sounds and Jolee with A Boulder Affair did the wedding coordinating. Too bad they didn't hire me to cover their honeymoon on Kauai and Maui. To see the highlights of their wedding click here. Scary Picture
Last month I was at the WPPI (wedding and Portrait Photographers International) Convention in Las Vegas displaying our new venture, Tafota, and wouldn't you know it, Tim Skrastins of the Image Factory from Colorado Springs decided to take a picture of me. One of the reasons I chose to be a photographer is that I'm typicaly behind the camera, not in front of it. That is one scary image! Pictage
I received a call from Scott Anderson with Pictage today, he's the Communcations Marketing Manager, and he informed me that their new feature of displaying one of their member images on the Blog went live today and it was one of mine. See the post at www.blog.pictage.com It was of Krista and Gabe's wedding from June 24th, 2006 (see archive, June 2006). Posted April 18th, 2008 It’s a striking image Grant…we dig it! Scott Anderson, Marketing Communications Manager, Pictage Kellie and Adair's Album Love Story Designs came through for me in record time. Last Saturday I had the privilege of documenting Kellie and Adair's wedding and their album is already online for them to see even though they're still on their honeymoon. Check it out at www.grantoakes.com/kellie. WPPI Tomorrow early I head for the airport to go to Las Vegas for the annual WPPI Convention where I'll have a booth for Tafota, our new website template and hosting service designed specifically for the professional photographer. Kellie and Adair And to think they almost had the wedding in Ohio where Kellie is from. Today they had 20" of snow and everythihg came to a halt. Denver on the other hand was in the 50's and beautiful as usual. After a fantastic reception at the Brown Palace Hotel they are headed to St Lucia for a Caribbean honeymoon. They plan on getting in some SCUBA diving while they are there too. I tried to talk my way into going along but I think they want to be alone for a few days. Check out this lovely couple's slide show by clicking here. Great Job!!! It made my day!!! Thank you!! Candy Rebecca and Neil My first wedding of 2008 and it was a very small and intimate affair (11 total in attendance) at the Beaver Creek Chapel and the Ritz Carlton Bachelor Gulch (Beaver Creek). TDA Design did a fantastic job with the floral and decor and the Ritz staff was phenomenal as usual. They pampered them with 1 staff member for each person there. Rebecca and Neil are both doctors and so were their parents and siblings, so the thought was if someone had a medical crisis, their wedding was the place to be. Their story is a very interesting one, their first date being in a town 100 miles north of Barcelona, Spain. Neil had flown in just for the dinner from a meeting that he was attending in Paris, while Rebecca was in Spain with her family. The 2 of them had a 3 hour dinner while outside, oblivious to them, there was a torrential downpour and the streets were flooded. They then had a romantic post-rain walk through the cobblestoned streets. Who ever said blind dates aren't romantic? Click here to see the highlights of their wedding. First post of the year and is it a good one! We have officially launched a new venture called Tafota and it's a website template and hosting company designed specifically for photographers. Kurt Brewer and I went to the PPA (Professional Photographers of America) convention in Tampa this past week to showcase what we do. Had lots of interest and several calls this morning already so we're very excited about it. We'll have a booth at WPPI in Las Vegas on March 17-19 also. Look for new designs to be added on a regular basis. The 28" monitor in our booth will come in handy for retouching between trade shows. How sweet! sunday, December 2nd, 2007 Meet Champ
Danielle and Ben McNair (see September 16, 2006 post) are expecting a boy in late January and they wanted pregnancy photos. Come visit this Blog in February to see how things come out. This is going to be one gorgeous baby! Kelly and Steve Last wedding of the year but certainly not least. Vail makes for a wonderful winter wedding location, especially when it's at Donovan's Pavilion and Foods of Vail is providing the catering. Angela Miles came along again (see September 23rd post) and we had the privilege of working with Henry and Lisa Mares of Mares Video Productions. The evening was absolutely wonderful. Check out their slide show by clicking here. Posted December 2nd, 2007 Hi Grant! You and Angela captured EVERYTHING that we could possibly have EVER dreamed of. The emotion....the love....our families and friends...the sentiment....the SNOW....Kadie's gorgeous pearl collar.....sparkler writing...spinning in a snowdrift...and some of our FAVORITES are those at the covered bridge! You got it ALL perfect! EVERYTHING....!!!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You are a part of our "family" that we will NEVER forget, and you captured the most important and special night of our lives through your wonderful photography! Kelly and Steve Heger, bride and groom 2007 NILMDTS Gala This evening was the first ever Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep fund raising Gala. Kyle Dyer of Denver's 9 News hosted the event and it also looked like a who's who in the photography industry. John Snow of Larson Enterprises and Sky high Backgrounds from Ft Myers Florida was there as well as Michael Hanline of White House Custom Color. Dave Junion Kirk Kief, the forum admistrator for NILMDTS, Debbie and Amanda Tipton and many more. It was held at the South Denver Cardiology Association who generously donated the space and was catered by Occasions by Sandy who provided the fantastic food. A couple of my past clients, Annemarie Madigan and Michelle Trapani voluteered to help. Of course, Sandy Puc and Cheryl Haggard, the co founders, were present. What a great group of selfless individuals. Click here to see what you missed. Dana, John and Connor
This evening Dana Berry from the Magnolia Hotel , husband John and their 5 week old son, Connor, came over for a portrait session. He (Connor) was a little unsettled since we had interrupted his nap and routine but we managed to get a few good images. This one was my favorite. Aren't babies just adorable? Jaymie and Brant Brant proposed to Jaymie in a most unusual way, while under water, with SCUBA gear on, in the shark tank at the Denver Aquarium and it was videotaped by several news crews! The wedding was at Stonebrook Manor and just as the ceremony started a gorgeous rainbow came out to greet us! Also, Angela Miles, whose wedding I photographed in September, 2002, approached me about becoming a wedding photographer and wanted to come along to gain experience. Some of the images in Jaymie and Brant's slide show are hers. I think she has a real future as a wedding photographer. Click here to see the highlights of their wedding. Saturday, September 22nd, 2007 Martin and BA This evening, I had the opportunity of documenting Martin and BA (as she is affectionately called by her friends), the owners of Rocky Mountain Orthodontics, as they celebrated their 60th, yes, 60th wedding anniversary! The Denver Athletic Club was host to this incredible occasion. I heard great stories about their world wide travels and relationships that have grown since kindergarten. The highlights of this party can be seen by clicking here. Veronica and Jody This was the smallest, most intimate wedding of the year for me. There were only 18 close friends and family members there, including the bride and groom. They are also big college football fans, mostly rooting for Penn State and Texas A&M, both of which won today. The ceremony was performed by Dr. Forest Whitman, who I have not had the opportunity to work with for a long time. Steve Center with the Mount Vernon Country Club had a great feast served up. To see the highlights from their wedding all you have to do is click here. Posted September 10th, 2007 The pictures look great!!! Jody Robins, groom Destination I Do In December, 2006 I photographed Brooke and Chris on the slopes of Beaver Creek and later submitted the images to Jennifer Stein, the editor of Destination I Do magazine. Well, today I received my Fall 2007 copy and there they are, 3 pages worth. And to think, I almost wasn't able to get out of my drive way! As you may recall, we got hit with that 2' snow storm that shut down DIA and brought Denver to a halt! It will take more than that to keep me from a wedding. I love my job! Posted August 31st, 2007 Grant Awesome work…I love this! Congratulations on the well-deserved coverage. Scott Anderson-Marketing Communications Manager, Pictage Workshop It was a record setting hot day today and we heated it up even more! I had the privilege of hosting a Shoot With Beckstead workshop today and we received world class instruction by one of the top 10 wedding photographers in our industry! We started at Red Rocks Amphitheater and then moved to downtown Denver. The models were Krista Young from my June 24th, 2006 wedding (Krista), her sister Tessa and friend, Jenn, both of whom were bridesmaids in her wedding. It seemed like a reunion. David guided us through his style of fashion wedding photography and then turned us loose. To see what I got click here. I can't wait to try some of these techniques on my future weddings. Julianne and Chris Julianne and Chris had their wedding and reception at the Vail Cascade and the Eagle River was only a stone throw away! They also had a butterfly release which added a wonderful element to their wedding. Wendie Bass of Let's Plan It was their wedding Coordinator and and Marc McDonald of Complete Music personally took care of getting the guests on their feet. The highlights slide show can be seen by clicking here. Christie and Kevin Theirs was a simple yet fun filled wedding at Shadows Ranch in Georgetown. They did a few things that I have never seen before, like bringing together different family members on both sides and built the brides bouquet as she came up the aisle. We also experienced a hail storm while they were on the raft in the pond. Christie quickly improvised as you will see if you click on their highlights slide show here. Ginger and Brennen Another rainy day, this one at the Cordillera but it cleard just long enough for the ceremony and a few formal pictures at the Timberhearth Grill and then it came down in buckets again. They had the Right On Band come all the way from Virginia to perform for the guests and it was quite a party! Carolyn Moorman of Artisan Events had it going smooth as usual. Ginger and Brennen's highlights slide show can be seen by clicking here. Posted August 6th, 2007 Grant, THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Brennen and I had the most fun looking at the highlights. You were an incredible part of the most special night of our life together. We cannot thank you enough for bringing your artistic eye to every aspect of the day & night. We cannot wait to see them all! We are so lucky that you were part of it... Our love to you, Poster August 9th, 2007 Dear Grant, Nancy Kreitler (mother of the bride) Dru and Peter Dru and Peter had their wedding and reception at Mile High Station and a good friend of mine, Greg Harring came and photographed with me. Although it rained after the wedding, putting a damper on the artistic style I love to do we managed to find a place under a bridge next to the Platte River to shelter us from the down pour and was able to get some wonder light. Enjoy their highlights slide show by clicking here. Now it's 1 a.m. and I have a wedding at the Cordillera on Sunday so I'm off the bed. Lightning Workflow Seminars This fall I'll be touring the eastern half of the U.S. conducting seminars on digital workflow for wedding photographers called Lightning Workflow. I'll have a real test of my procedures since I have 4 weddings in the next 8 days and I want to keep everything on track including the album designs for my clients. Kelly and Kevin Kelly and Kevin had their wedding at the picturesque Arrowhead Golf Course and they had Ann Marlin of Nancy Chase Signature Events there to handle the coordinating. I have had the privilege to photograph the weddings of Kevin's 2 sisters, Kristin and Karin. For that reason I felt like I was at a family reunion since the bridal party was made up of people who's weddings I've done over the years. Now they have kids and are they cute! See their slide show by clicking here. Annette and James Annette and James picked the number one wedding date of the year, 07/07/07. They chose the Lone Tree Golf Club for their site and with children galore in attendance! See the highlights by clicking here. Ashley and Kevin Ashley and Kevin actually had 2 weddings the same day! That was a first for me. The first one was for immediate family only at a church near downtown Denver and the one following was at Botanic Gardens. Then we were off for a quick tour around the town and then to the Magnolia Hotel. See their highlights slide show by clicking here. Julie and Brad Believe it or not, but this couple actually roots for Nebraska! They're really nice so we won't hold that against them. After the ceremony and on the way back to the Grand Hyatt for the reception we made a couple of stops around downtown Denver and had a wonderful time. Just click here to see the highlights from their wedding. Posted June 4th, 2007 Hi Grant, Well, it is the day after Julie and Brad's wedding weekend
and I am on your web site with a smile on my face and a tear in my
eye. As I view your site, I am again in awe of your talent. ... you
are
a true artist! Karen Hatting, Mother of the Bride Hi Grant, I am speechless. You did such an AWESOME job on Julie and Brad's wedding. All the emotions came back through your beautiful pictures. Thank you for sharing Bev Sidhu-St Mary's Wedding Facilitator Alicia and Michael
Another wedding at the Beaver Creek Chapel and the Beaver Creek Lodge and was the weather gorgeous! Andrew Schaefer came with me to assist and JoAnn Moore of Mountains and Meadows was the coordinator. If you want to see the highlights of this fun loving couple just click here. Vacation
Last month Linda, the grand kids and me went on a well deserved vacation in southern California and while we were there we had the opportunity to go to lunch with a fellow photographer, Mark Lenoce from the San Diego area. Mark is originally from Denver but moved to California a few years ago. He was kind enough to take this picture and send us a copy. NILMDTS I really feel that I'm extremely fortunate, I live in the beautiful state of Colorado, 2 wonderful grandchildren that Linda and I are raising and a career that I'm passionate about. This evening though 3 families are going through what is perhaps the most traumatic situation possible, the loss of their infant child. I am a volunteer with Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep (NILMDTS) and earlier I received a call from Children's Hospital here in Denver and that there was a need to photograph a baby that was on life support for the family. While I was en route to the hospital I received another call from a nurse at St Joseph Hospital nearby and they had 2 children also. I don't think there are words to express what I'm feeling right now but if what I can give to these parents can help ease their pain just a little or help them through their grieving process then it is well worth the effort. If you're a professional photographer please consider joining this organization, I think you'll find it to be a rewarding way to give to the community with a gift that can mean so much. Posted April 15th, 2007 Dear Grant, I am so sorry for the loss of these little lives...Steve and I have discussed this, and we would like to add "Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep" to our registry of non-profit organizations that will benefit from contributions from our wedding. Kelly Kirchmar & Steve Heger Big Head Todd and the Monsters This evening I had the opportunity to photograph Big Head Todd and the Monsters at the Oxford Hotel. The concert was a private corporate party that was put together by Louise and Stephanie of Splash Events. Want to see it? Click here! Home at Last We returned home yesterday after being gone for over a week and a half. I feel like I need a vacation to recover from my vacation! We started out flying to Las Vegas and then drove to Southern California and did Sea World, San Diego Air and Space Museum and Disneyland with 2 of our grand children, Tyler (11) and Lauren (2). We took hundreds of photos and hours of video and enjoyed seeing their eyes light up. After that we drove back to Las Vegas for the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International Convention (WPPI) at Ballys. I taught a Master Class on the subject of designing wedding albums. My program was limited to 30 and sold out over 2 months ago. This year there were over 10,000 registrations from 38 countries. I learned a lot and I'm fired up and ready to go into this wedding season with new and profound direction. Published I just received a phone call from the Publisher of Destination I Do, a magazine that specializes in destination weddings throughout the world. They are going to do a feature on my December 21st, 2006 couple, Brooke and Chris in their next issue. Look for it on newsstands in September of this year. Wednesday, February 21th, 2007 Belmar Center
I covered a networking event at the Belmar Center for Diana Anderson of DES this evening. There was Steve Crecelius of Wonder Works Studios, Ann Marlin of Nancy Chase Signature Events, the cast from Tony Rosacci's Fine Catering and many, many more fine event professionals. February ISES Meeting
I took my grandson, Tyler, to the February ISES (International Special Event Society) meeting which was hosted by Invesco Field and food was provided by Epicurean Catering. There were also team building activities by Fun Productions that were a blast. Tyler asked me on the way home if all the ISES meetings were like this. I think he had about as much fun as an 11 year old is legally allowed to have. Missie and Del
Missie and Del wanted to have their wedding where they first acknowledged their love for each other, the Denver Aquarium, formerly Ocean Journey. See the highlights of their wedding by clicking on their slide show. Shelley and Phillip
A few weeks ago I received a call from Phillip wanting me to photograph his elopement with Shelley at the Beaver Creek Chapel. This lovely couple are from the island of Jersey, just off the coast of France but a possession of England. It begins at the Posh Salon and finishes at the chapel. It was a very simple yet elegant ceremony. See their slide show by clicking here. Posted January 30th, 2007 Dear Grant We have known and loved Phillip since the day he was

Thanks again, Andrew, Michala and Amelia Wright Mile High Station Party
xErnie Meritt, the owner of Mile High Station had a 50th birthday bash and even got up and performed for his guests. The event was catered by Biscuits and Berries Catering. See all the action by clicking here. Trish and Dion
It was a cold January night but that didn't matter to this warm hearted couple. The ceremony and reception took place at the Chateaux at Fox Meadows and was a wonderful way to start the new year. See the highlights of their wedding by clicking here. Thanks for doing such an excellent job Grant! We just love the photos you captured of our wedding. When we took through them, we can really relive that night, three weeks ago. You are so talented and we are so pleased with our choice to use your services. We will continue to check your blog for more of your work! Thank you! Trish and Dion Brooke and Chris Interview Last week I photographed the wedding of Brooke and Chris and this evening they came over for their presentation on our big screen. Afterward they shared their thoughts about their experience with Linda and here is their interview. Thursday, December 21th, 2006 Brooke and Chris
I had a 29 year, 350 wedding record of never missing a wedding on the line and was not about to let an historic blizzard stop me from my appointed duty to photograph their wedding. I loaded up the car on Wednesday at 11am and headed west to the Beaver Creek Lodge. It took 4 hours just to get to Golden and another 3 to arrive in Avon. I was able to attend their rehearsal and dinner and the next day I had to put on skis (haven't done that for 14 years) and go up to the deck where the ceremony was. In an attempt to circle around to get as many images as I could I fell into 4' of powder and struggled to get out. The brides' sister was about to cry during the service, noticed me floundering and it changed her whole mood. Fortunately I as able to get unstuck before they had to dive in and perform a rescue mission. I took a lot of ribbing at the reception about it and I'm glad no one got it on video! The entire family was fantastic and I hope you enjoy the slide show as much as I did photographing this couples wedding. Click here to see it. Lunch with David and Travis Things have been relatively quiet lately, just catching up on orders and our web site. I got an email a few days ago from a friend and fellow wedding photographer from the state of Washington saying he would be in Denver to visit family and that he wanted to get together. So David Beckstead came out to my studio for a while and then we went over to Travis Broxton's place and then out to a Thai restaurant and talked shop this afternoon. It's really a great community to be involved in where you can get together with your peers and exchange ideas and help each other out. I hope to live to the ripe old age of 90 something and die with a camera in my hand. Kelly and Phil
Linda photographed this intimate wedding at the Lodge and Spa at Cordillera that was coordinated by Claire Graham of Sassy Events. The highlights can be seen by clicking here. Come back on Friday and click on the Pictage link to see everything. Carrie and Tom

everything. My wedding day was the happiest day of my life and you
perfectly captured all of the joy, laughter, tears and love in such
an expressive and unique way. I tried to be serious for some of the
shots but I was just having too much fun!! The photos will always help
us remember this amazing time. Alison and Griffin
These two are big Tennessee Volunteer fans and decided to have a fall wedding at the Cordillera Timber Hearth. Alison's aunt is Carolyn Moorman, a wedding coordinator who put together a spectacular event. Views were breathtaking, trees were in full color change and the weather was great. See for yourself by clicking here. If you go to Pictage on Tuesday you'll get to see everything including the rehearsal dinner. WPPI Program I received a call this morning from a fellow photographer letting me know that the October issue of Rangefinder Magazine published the speaker list for the WPPI 2007 Convention and I was in it. I'll be teaching a class to 30 photographers on how to design beautiful wedding albums. Family
Every now and then it's good to do something different. Today I took one of my daughters and 2 grandchildren out and had a little fun with this photo session. Believe it or not it was done right next to a ditch and a gas station. Sometimes you don't need a lot of area to get a great backdrop. As you can tell, they didn't inherit their good looks from Dad. Welcome Thanks for taking the time to view our Blog. Here you'll be kept up to date on the latest developments and innovative ideas we will be incorporating into our business. We hope you'll check back often and contact us with your comments.
